How to Play: Crazy SOHE
Description:
Crazy SOHE (Simultaneous Omaha and Holdem) is a variant of Omaha poker that combines elements of Omaha Hi and Texas Hold’em. The game is played with a standard 52-card deck and can accommodate 2 to 8 players.
Rules
- Initial Deal: Each player is dealt 6 hole cards face down.
- Betting Round 1: Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player has the option to call, raise, or fold.
- The Flop: Three community cards are dealt face up on the table.
- Betting Round 2: Another round of betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer. Prior to the turn, player separates cards into a 2-card Hold’em hand and a 4-card Omaha hand. Changing the hand after the turn has been exposed will foul the player’s hand.
- The Turn: A fourth community card is dealt face up.
- Betting Round 3: Another round of betting follows.
- The River: The fifth and final community card is dealt face up.
- Final Betting Round: The final round of betting takes place.
- Showdown: Players reveal their hole cards. Each player must use exactly two of their hole cards and three of the community cards to make their best high hand and their best low hand (if possible).
- Winning: The pot is split between the best high hand (using traditional poker hand rankings) and the best qualifying low hand (using the ‘eight or better’ rule).
Hand Rankings
In Crazy SOHE, the hand rankings are the same as Omaha Hi-Lo Eight or Better:
- Omaha High Hand: Follows traditional poker rankings (Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, etc.).
- Holdem High Hand: Follows traditional poker rankings (Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, etc.).
Strategy Tips
- Focus on starting hands that can potentially win both the high and low halves of the pot.
- Be aware of your opponents’ tendencies and adapt your strategy accordingly.
- Remember to use exactly two hole cards and three community cards to make your hands.
- Position is crucial, as it allows you to see how other players act before making your decisions.
Conclusion
Crazy SOHE Poker is an exciting variant that combines the complexities of Omaha and Hi-Lo poker. By understanding the rules and practicing strategic play, you can improve your chances of winning the pot, whether for the Omaha high hand, the Holdem High hand, or both!
